9/30/14: Notes went over in class today: See below: Metals, Metalloids, non metals
Notes go on page 42 in notebook: Metals are located on the left side of the Periodic Table Non metals located on the right side of the Periodic Table Metalloids on a stair step between metals and nonmetals. 1) Which group are the most reactive metals? Group 1 Family name? Alkali metals Why? 2) Which group are the most non metals? Family name? Why? 3) What is significant about group 18? Family? 4) What are the properties of metal? malleability - that can be pounded into shape example: Aluminum foil Ductility - can be pulled into a long wire Conductivity - transfer heat or electricity to another object Luster - shiny 5) What are the properties of non metals? Poor conductors of electricity and heat Are reactive with other elements Solid non metals are dull and brittle To help in understanding about metals, non metals, and metalloids. Watch the powerpoint and take notes as necessary. |
